Extraterrestrial Life Found...Possibly

A team of British scientists believe that they've found organisms in earth’s environment that originate from outer space.

As hard as that could be to judge, Professor Milton Wainwright, the team’s principal, insists that this is definitely the instance.

The team, from the University of Sheffield, discovered the tiny organisms (misleadingly known as ‘bugs’ by quite a lot of demanding journalists) living on a research balloon that had been sent 16.7 miles into our environment throughout last month’s Perseids meteor shower.

In keeping with Professor Wainwright, the microscopic creatures could not have been carried into the stratosphere on the balloon. He said, "Many people will presume that these biological particles have to have just drifted up into the stratosphere from Earth, but it is normally accepted that a particle of the volume found cannot be lifted from Earth to heights of, as an example, 27km. Really the only well-known exception is by a violent volcanic explosion, none of these occurred within 3 years of their sampling trip."

Wainwright maintains that only salient end is these organisms originated from space. He went on to mention that “life is not restricted to this planet but it nearly definitely did not originatehere”

However, not everyone seems to be so convinced. Dr. Seth Shostak, senior astronomer with the SETI (Search for Extra Terrestrial Intelligence) project remarked, “I’m very skeptical. This claim has been made before, and dismissed as terrestrial contamination." The team responds to that by saying they were thorough as they prepared the balloon before the experiments started.

Yet, they do acknowledge that there could be an unknown reason for these organisms to achieve such altitudes. It must also be well-known that microbal organisms discovered in the 1980’s and 1990’s and called ‘extremophiles’ stunned the scientific community by living in environments that might instantly kill the bulk of life on earth.

These creatures have been observed living deep under Antarctic ice and even 1900 feet below the ocean floor. In March of that year, Ronnie Glud, a biogeochemist at the Southern Danish Uni in Odense, Denmark was quoted as saying "Inside the most secluded, unfriendly places, it is possible to even have higher motion than their surroundings," and that "Yow will discover microbes in all places - they're exceptionally compliant to conditions, and stay alive wherever they are," so this indicates more plausible that any the team is in error, or that this is just another case of microscopic life showing up in an extraordinary place.

In addition, it is not the first time this unique team has come under fire for making such statements, either. Back in January of this year, astrobiologist Dr. Chandra Wickramasinghe reported that ‘fossils’ found from a Sri Lankan meteorite were testimony of extraterrestrial life, an assertion that is extensively criticized by scientific community.

Other scientists have complained that there basically is not enough evidence to generate this type of claim, as a theory this important would need a huge body of evidence to prove its authority.

What that claims to the reporter is that microorganisms can exist basically anywhere which it simply isn’t good science to jump to wild conclusions like aliens each time a more plausible answer is most certainly present. Science should not be subject to such wild leaps of fancy. Imagination is a good aid to science, but it isn't a science in and of itself. Unfortunately, Dr. Wainwright and his group appear to be seeing what they want to observe.
